week one
week one ![]() It's May, 1842, and the trail ahead stretches as far as you can see. Your destination still seems like an even farther off dream with as slowly as the wagons go, but at least you have good company... Right? You're traveling through Missouri this week, and it seems like it will be a quiet trip. WEATHERThis week, suggested activities include Hunting, Wagon Maintenance, and Cooking. On Tuesday, there will also be a chance to ford the Blue River. The river is shallow, and conditions are good. Good luck and safe travels! graveyard RNG selections are due at 5PM EST on October 21st. |
RNG SELECTIONS
Pick a number (or generate one) between 1-50 and comment with that number. 15 numbers have a positive effect, 15 numbers have a negative effect, 5 are sudden death, and the rest will have no effect. These will be in effect for Week Two.
RNG selections are due at 5PM EST on October 21st. Failure to submit a selection without notifying the mods of your absence will lead to the character getting killed on Week Two.

[It's super hot and Kuranosuke wants to complain, but he is The Lone Delicate Flower of Wagon 3, so he guesses he can try and be on his best behavior. How long his resolve will last is anyone's guess, but pretending should make this at least a little more interesting, he hopes.
So instead of a "GOD, it's hot!" his wagonmates will be treated to a demure-sounding,]
Excuse me... it's so hot out. Could I trouble one of you for some water?
Monday
[Iiiit's cooking time! Let it be known that Kuranosuke has absolutely no idea how to cook on the trail like this. Books and movies always made it sound so simple, though, so he's gathering sticks and stuff to try and build a cooking fire with. He doesn't actually know what he's doing, but he looks cheery enough at just the thought of a meal.]
It's almost chow time, everyone! Soon we'll be able to dig in!
[Assuming anyone actually knows how to cook because haha... ha...]
Tuesday
[Well that. Sure is a river. They're all going to have to figure out how to get their wagons across somehow, but that's not his call to make. Before they even think about that, he's got another suggestion.]
Hey! Why don't we all take advantage of this nice weather and go swimming for a little bit first?
sunday
This is one of those times. He heard manners! So after pausing with whatever he's doing- trying to coax oxen into moving, likely- he reaches over to pluck a canteen out of a supply pile and holds it out.]
Keep it with you.

[It's definitely hot out! Amaterasu's fur is at least not absorbing more heat than necessary, but she's definitely panting. But she's had worse! She pads dutifully along with the oxen. They do seem to be pretty tired... They could probably use a water break, actually! Amaterasu turns around and barks a few times--they should stop!]
Tuesday
[A river. She hates baths, but rivers aren't too bad. They have to get the wagon across, though. It doesn't look too deep, but she can't be sure just looking. So, time to text it! She steps into the water and begins to walk. It's cold, and she can feel the current tugging at her, but she can maintain her balance and keep her feet on the ground. She has to lift her head a bit, and there are uncertain little deep spots she steers clear of, but by the time she's in the center of the river and still on her feet, she decides things are probably safe for her oxen and wagonmates. She runs back over to the shore where the wagon is.
Then she shakes off and sprays water everywhere.]
Friday
[It's raining and Amaterasu doesn't really want to keep walking, so her wagonmates may here a solid thump as Amaterasu jumps onto the back of the wagon for a nap. Truly she is the most ever-alert wolf.]
Tuesday
Yo!
How's the wat -- gaah.
[The answer is cold.]
Well, if it's shallow enough for you to walk on, we should probably be fine.

[Hunting. Right. Hunting. Actually no, hunting, how does that work...? In theory, he knows, but he always had his magic when he needed it, and Fee had helped out with her spear.
The guns, however, are entirely foreign to him, and he's squinting at them, a puzzled look on his face. He seems torn between reaching to touch (regardless of whose gun it is) or just warily inspecting it from afar.
Please don't let him touch those, he'd probably shoot himself in the foot or something.]
tuesday
[Arthur's another of those people staring at the river. It doesn't look too terrible, but...well, this is one of those times where Fee's pegasus would be hugely handy. Flying over all of these things had made their trip so much easier, honestly, and he's definitely appreciating that now.
But wishing for a pegasus (and her rider) won't fix the river problem, and having absolutely zero experience with this, he's just going to ask the first person who comes even remotely close, regardless of wagon, and--]
Is there a certain order we should do this in...? Someone knows how to do this, right?
[Right???]
thursday
[It's raining, and that's gross. He's been pretty good about walking, and keeping an eye out for things, and not necessarily sitting in the wagon at all times, but now that the rain is falling, he's sticking as close by the wagon as possible, looking nothing more than like a wet, irritated cat, long hair soaked and drooping.
Which is when a bump in the trail causes the wagon to sway, and all of the water that had collected on top dumps instead right onto his head, and then he's just choking and spluttering and WHY THIS TRIP.]
Ugh...!
monday!
What is it? Do you need to borrow this? [Maybe Arthur will have a chance to shoot himself after all...! Except he's doing this in Ultimate Competitive Mode, so he adds:]
I shall let you have one shot in exchange for something of yours.

SO, when he actually smells whatever tasty thing is being fire-roasted, he drifts over like some sort of starved moron who has only been eating 1 cent pieces of candy for a couple of days (because that is exactly what he's done).]

[This level of heat should not exist. Mabel's discarded her sweater and is lying on the floor of the wagon, trying to move as little as possible. Unfortunately, each jolt of the wagon on the bumpy trail jostles her and reminds her (painfully) that her skin is starting to stick to the wood. She groans every time this happens, which is a lot, and she gets louder each time. Someone please shut her up or throw water on her or something.]
Tuesday
[The river is a welcome sight after the heat, and even though the weather has improved since Sunday, swimming doesn't sound like a bad idea. You can find Mabel dipping her feet in the water (the current looks a wee bit fast for her to completely wade in), or, if you're in her wagon party, she might ask you how they plan on getting across with] Are we gonna ford the river? I wanna ride an ox!
Any day after Tuesday, because she will ask every day
[Okay, it's been a few days since they left Independence, and the trip's novelty has completely worn off. Now it's just day after monotonous day of riding in the wagon, stopping occasionally to eat or rest the oxen. She finally begins wandering from wagon to wagon in the train, asking the same question:]
Wanna play I Spy?
Wednesday??
I don't think I know that one, but why not?
